Old World Delights: A Magical Christmas Celebration in Kiely Hall
I was at work in Kiely Hall, which looked exactly like it did when we worked there. You came in and invited me and a couple of other people to come to your apartment for a celebration. Your apartment was nicely furnished in what I would call Old World European style – simple (not ornate) and a bit moody with furniture upholstered in subdued tones of dark red and green brocade. I commented on the beautiful furniture and you told me that it belonged to your mother who had recently passed away. The apartment was decorated for Christmas. Of all the beautiful decorations you had, the Christmas Tree stood out because it was so beautiful and brightly lit. I turned to the person standing next to me to say something and realized that it was Bernie from the bookstore. He pointed to a woman across the room and told me that she had offered to give me a small puppy she had in a jar. I then excused myself and left to go to the bathroom. When I came out, a large dog came in from another room. You cautioned everyone that the dog was not always friendly. When I sat down on your red and green brocade couch, the dog jumped up and snuggled next to me. Then suddenly, there appeared a long table in the middle of the room with all kinds of finger-foods on it, which you had made. In the middle of the table was a large cake decorated with whipped cream and edible red and pink roses. We all oohed and ahhhhed (sp) at how beautiful and delicious it all looked. Then suddenly you took me by the hand and led me out of the apartment. We were then standing at the entrance of a subway station. It wasn’t the usual grungy nyc subway station. This one was bright, clean and painted in bright gold. I thought you were going to put me on a train and leave…… but then you turned around, grabbed me by the hand again and led me out. On the street, I saw rows and rows of beautiful shops all decorated for Christmas with animated Christmas scenes in the windows. As I looked down the long avenue of stores, I could see a huge Christmas tree (as tall as a building) at the very end. As we strolled together, looking at all the beautiful shops, I woke up.
This dream suggests that the dreamer may be feeling a sense of loss or nostalgia for a past time, represented by the old workplace and the old-world European style of the apartment. The mother's furniture represents a sense of heritage and tradition that is now gone. However, the Christmas decorations and the beautiful shops suggest that there is still joy and beauty in the present. The puppy in the jar may represent a small opportunity or gift that the dreamer may be overlooking. The caution about the unfriendly dog may represent potential obstacles or challenges that need to be overcome. The dream ends on a positive and hopeful note, suggesting that there is still much to be enjoyed and explored in life.
